How to Style an Indian Sherwani

by Chris Warren on February 19, 2016

We know that all men like to make a style statement on the day of the wedding or at
any other wedding function. To give that eye-catching look, the style needs to work well. No doubt, the girls are dressed in sparkling dresses so, men too need to need to style their best.
Sherwanis are adorned with different styles, cloths, and colours; and also with
embellishments that compliment them. The best and most suitable sherwani is the one
that has both, the traditional and the contemporary look and style.

Appropriate colour

Colour is extremely important to be taken in to account for a Sherwani. Usually, maroon and red are the colours which are preferred by men but, colours like indigo and yellow also look great.

Length

The length of a sherwani varies according to its design and style. Sherwani falling
below the knee length can be matched with churidar pyjama or a pair of Jodhpuris. If
your height is below 5.7”inches, an Indian short sherwani with dhoti style will be
appropriate. This combination is one of the most classic Mens sherwani styles.

Embellishments and Material

If you are fascinated by the royal and opulent, look for lush fabrics like velvet or
brocade. If you want to look classic yet elegant, look for cotton-silk or silk sherwanis.
When choosing sherwani with embellishment, choose the one which matches the
occasion. If it’s not the wedding day, you can go for less embellishment.
It is easy to buy a great looking sherwani, the secret to looking outstanding lies in styling
it right.  Choose a dupatta in a rich fabric like silk with less embellishment if, the
sherwani has too much embroidery. Wear it on one shoulder and drape it down to give it
a classic look. Match your sherwani with a well-crafted pair of mojris or khussas for a phenomenal look.
